Strokesaver

Hole 1
Gentle downhill Par 4 to start with, internal out of bounds to the right (from tee box through wooden cabin and on through on inside edge of trees on 7th fairway beyond). Any shot finishing to the left of the green will leave you with a difficult up and down.  Opportunity to get your round off to a good start.

Hole 2
Uphill par 4, out of bounds on the right  side and bunkers waiting for wayward drives. The green is protected by bunkers at the front right hand side and hidden on the left.  Slick green slopes from back to front. Best to try and keep ball below hole or risk of 3 putt looms. Par is very acceptable score!

Hole 3
Dog leg to the left par 4 with out of bounds on both right (inside edge of fit trees, practice green, 5th & 14th tees) and on the right.  Accuracy required with tee shot as twin bunkers await on right hand side and going too far left risks having second shot blocked out by trees.  Keep approach shot to the right hand side as green falls away to left and back.

Hole 4
Short par 3 whose appearance has changed in recent years due to replanting of a large number of trees.   Green is protected by bunkers at front and both sides, no good place to miss the green.

Hole 5
Downhill par 4; keeping tee shot to the left hand side of the fairway will afford more straightforward approach shot to a green protected by bunkers on the left and right hand side. Depending on the time of year, approach shot may need to be either flown to pin or landed 20 yards short to run up to green which falls away at back.

Hole 6
Par 4 which runs parallel to Helen’s Bay beach; green is best approached from right hand side. 2 fairway bunkers on right and 2 more protecting the green. Accuracy is key.  Avoid the dip by flying into the heart of the green. Any approach shot missing on left hand side will leave a difficult up and down.  Long green is not too undulating but often runs fast.

Hole 7
Short par 4 with trouble from the tee mainly down the left hand side. Most uphill putts are from the right side of the green, but don’t stray too far or bunkers await.

Hole 8
Long par 3 which, depending on wind direction, can require anything up to driver to reach.  Long green sloping from back  to front left. Par 3 is a good score at any time.

Hole 9
Uphill par 4 going back up to clubhouse, best to keep approach shot to centre-left side as too far right will fall away below the hole leaving near impossible up and down. Tight protected approach with shallow bunker left and much higher sided bunker on the right.  Green runs from back to front. Par is good score at any time.

Hole 10
As the 1st, Gentle downhill Par 4; main difference being that teeing area is now directly in front of clubhouse lounge so at times can attract a larger audience!

Hole 11
Demanding par 4  off the back tee. Uphill with out of bounds runs along right hand side, green is protected by bunkers left and right.  Slick green slopes from back to front, best to try and keep ball below hole or risk of 3 putt looms.

Hole 12
Longest hole off the back tee. A fresh view of the dog leg to the left with out of bounds both left and right. Fairway bunker on left now comes into play for many from the tee box.  Best approach shot is to the right hand side.

Hole 13
A different angle and shooting over trees to the often blind green poses fresh questions of accuracy.   Protected by bunkers at front on both sides,  still no good place to miss green.

Hole 14
The tee box tends to pull the shot right on the downhill par 4 so,  keeping tee shot to the left hand side of the fairway will bring rewards. Depending on the time of year approach shot may need to be either carried to the pin or landed 20 yards short to run in  to green

Hole 15
Signature Hole. One of the best looking golf holes anywhere! Par 4 from elevated tee which runs parallel to Helen’s Bay beach leaving a longer second shot to the pin requiring accuracy.  Any approach shot missing on left hand side will leave a difficult up and down.  Long green is slopes back to front.

Hole 16
Short par 4 with trouble from the tee mainly down the left hand side, keeping approach shot to right of the green should lead to an uphill putt.  Try for that birdie again.

Hole 17
Teeing area is about 50 yards ahead of 8th so, completely different club selection required though challenge is same as before. Clear the bunkers for a good chance of a birdie but par 3 is a good score at any time.

Hole 18
Uphill par 4 going back up to clubhouse. Not too demanding a finish with an accurate drive.  Try to stay on the high side of the fairway for a more straight forward up & down. Par is good score at any time.
